Beacon Award for Philanthropy
Private Equity investor James Thomas approaches philanthropy through his professional lens. James found and backed a small group of professionals working in India, who were convinced that another approach was necessary. Together they formed a charity called Justice and Care.
“I wanted to support an organisation that saved lives, in a way that broke the cycle of crime and changed how the state operates. I also wanted scale, impact and value for money.”
Justice and Care operates mainly in India, Bangladesh, the UK and the Netherlands. It has two hundred full-time professionals who operate 24/7, including former investigators, lawyers, social workers and counsellors.
“We are building a small army that is operating strategically, saving lives in a way that can be replicated, in a way that destroys criminal networks and always working with the state.”
