Evening Standard Chairman Justin Byam Shaw, wants to help eradicate food poverty in London through the ‘breathtakingly obvious’ plan of addressing industry food waste.

The UK food industry throws away more than 710k tonnes of food each year, while many Londoners don’t get enough to eat and many eat no fresh food at all. Just 7% of the edible surplus reaches charities and food banks.

“This glaring mismatch of supply and demand is attractive to entrepreneurs like me. There’s more than enough food to go round. It just isn’t getting to the right people.”

The Felix Project was set up in 2016 and funded by Justin and wife Jane, in memory of their 14-year-old son, who died of Meningitis.

The Project has built a bridge between fresh, quality food that can’t be sold and front line charities, serving the homeless, the elderly and people struggling to feed themselves and their families.
