Judges' Special Award
Geneticist and entrepreneur Shalni Arora is working on several fronts to create a fairer and more just world for the most poor and marginalised in India and the UK.
Her foundation Savannah Wisdom, set up in 2011, partners with charities and not for profit organisations with game-changing initiatives in areas such as legal rights, child protection, corruption and peace and security.
“In particular, Savannah Wisdom is keen to find ways to re-balance the inequality in access to legal rights faced by women in India. We support organisations who take on pro bono legal work and public interest litigation cases on issues around violence against women and gender inequality.”
The Foundation is a supporter of the British Asian Trust, where Shalni is also a Trustee. “The British Asian Trust is an excellent partner for someone like me, who is based here, as they facilitate our work through their in-depth knowledge of the sector in South Asia.”
